California Dreaming

Book your airline ticket to America and ride with us on the Pacific Coast Highway, through Death Valley and get your kicks on Route 66!

The tour starts with the Pacific Coast Highway, California. Highway 1 hugs the coast passing through some of the most dramatic scenery anywhere in the world. Big Sur, and its 90 miles of coastline is one of the most memorable stretches of coastline, with mountains 5,000 feet tall rising straight up from the Pacific Ocean. It's also a narrow, twisty, great motorcycling road! After sixty-five miles we arrive for our guided tour of Hearst Castle - a hilltop paradise of extravagant Italian design with a strange 1930s flavour. Not to be missed!

The ride across the Golden Gate Bridge leaving San Francisco is a unique experience. Your guide will take you to two vantage points for the best views and photos of the bridge. We travel onwards to Yosemite Valley - the most famous and magnificent of the many beautiful canyons in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. A day spent in Yosemite National Park is a day you'll never forget. You will stand at the base of El Capitan, the largest single granite rock on earth - rising 350 stories above you.

Death Valley, whose very name is awe inspiring - is truly one of the great landscapes of the world. Spend a day with your tour guide and learn what an endless variety show the desert affords, with endless traffic free roads, many fascinating places, superb sunsets and star-spangled night skies!

The road to Las Vegas takes us through the Amargosa Desert and when we reach the end of the trail, life definitely moves up a couple of gears. Las Vegas is the biggest, brightest, and most brazen boomtown in the history of the world. Thirty million visitors lose six billion dollars in the casinos every year - so, be warned and don't spend all your pocket money in one go.

Our route continues to the Grand Canyon - it is such a thrilling destination for those who like a visual adventure. Explore the Canyon rim roads by motorcycle, free bus, or walk along the rim path during our two night stopover. The hotel is very near the Canyon airport for those who want to explore by helicopter or light aircraft. Whatever you do, you must not miss the sun setting over the canyon; it's something you will never forget.

Leaving Arizona we will access some of the best surviving and most evocative stretches of the old Route 66 as we follow alongside the Santa Fe Railroad tracks. Stop off in old style 50s diners in Seligman or Kingman. Visit the historic town of Oatman, a gold mining town whose glory days have long faded. It looks like a Wild West set, but it is the real thing - wooden sidewalks, bearded roughnecks and a few burros wander the streets. As we cross the Mojave Desert we get a taste of what it was like in the days before air conditioning and mobile phones. Most of the towns and services are now closed, but you will be able to get a feel for what life was like on Historic Route 66.

Everyone who came on this tour in 2007, 2008 and 2009 said that this is the American holiday of your dreams. It was sooo good that we will repeat the identical itinerary - all accommodation has been carefully selected, all rooms will be en-suite and most hotels/motels have swimming pools and hot tubs. Your MCi Tour guides, have many years experience organising motorcycle tours. They will both be with you throughout the tour to offer you the benefit of their advice.
