Rouen

If you have fancied a ride abroad but worried how to go about it then this is the tour for you!

You will stay in a good quality Hotel in the Cathedral City of Rouen - famous for it's olde worlde half-timbered buildings and the quality of it's cuisine. We will include an optional assessment ride as part of the package, so if you have any concerns about riding technique this is a great opportunity to share your experiences with our professional guides and with your fellow riders on tour! The assessment will be an hour-long observed ride with an opportunity to discuss the outcome on a one-to-one with a fully qualified professional instructor. A great way to improve your riding skills!

The mileages for the weekend will be modest - we want this to be a gentle introduction to touring on the continent and we have planned some interesting routes for you so that you will get the best out of the weekend - and hopefully get the best out of your bike. The tour will be fully escorted so you do not need to worry about getting lost and a full tour pack will be sent to you in advance so that you can see the routes that we have prepared for you. If you are happy to do your own thing and want to use the information provided rather than ride with the rest of the group we are comfortable with that too. It's your holiday and we want you to get the most out of this long weekend away on your bike.

Rouen is the first big city that you come to heading south from Calais. It's cathedral dominates the skyline and is well worth a visit although we expect to spend more time in the evening around the Old Market Place where there are many delightful restaurants and drinking establishments - only a short walk from our Hotel. Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake in the centre of Rouen - there is an interesting museum that charts her remarkable progress from peasant girl to revolutionary. Wander through the streets of the old quarter, see the great clock, Grand Horloge that dates back to the 12th Century and enjoy the architecture and relaxed ambience of this part of town. You may want to visit the Museum of Beaux Artes that has a special event this year celebrating the finest impressionist painters Gaugin, Monet and Pissarro all of whom created masterpieces based on landscapes in and around Rouen.
