Spanish Heritage Tour
This tour is ideal for your first time abroad as our itinerary involves distances of no more than 240 miles per day.
UNESCO has declared eleven cities in Spain as World Heritage Sites and this tour gives you the opportunity to visit six of them! The first will be our base for two nights - the one thousand year old medieval walled fortress town of Avila. A short ride from our hotel (a fourteenth century palace) takes us on to heritage site number two - Salamanca with its fascinating churches, palaces and towers constructed from a reddish golden stone that changes hue as the sun goes down... Onwards to Merida famous for it's Roman amphitheatre and forum where we stay in a four star hotel, from which we may also visit the noble homes of former conquistadors at Caceres. This part of Spain is Extremadura - where we rode for half an hour on perfect roads and didn't see another vehicle. The views are spectacular and the riding experience sublime...
As we approach Toledo, the view of the city is just awesome. We stay within a few minutes walk from the centre and have arranged a walking tour to make the most of this extraordinary heritage city. Toledo's Cathedral is built on a huge scale - ornate stone sculpture everywhere and inside, the fifteenth century carved altar is amazing. Finally, en route to our new four star Hotel at Burgos we will visit Segovia (the last heritage city of our tour) famous for its Roman aqueduct - 166 arches on two levels and still functional after 2000 years.
Take in Spain's rich cultural heritage, ride through unspoilt countryside and stay in superb and often truly luxurious surroundings. It doesn't get much better than this...
