Turkey Fantasy

Turkey has become a MotoDiscovery favorite destination and if you have the time we really recommend the longer 29 day Turkey Classic Tour.  However, we understand how time is a critical factor in planning one's riding vacation, so for those who just can't get away for a month, the 11-day Turkey Fantasy Tour is a great introduction to a land that is in every sense of the word, magical!

If MotoDiscovery is distinctive in any way, it is that we possibly place a stronger emphasis than most touring companies on providing a complete travel experience by encouraging encounters with the native population and discovering the cultures and traditions of the lands we travel.  Turkey is a treasure in this regard, with a profound and ancient history.  With treks among Greek and Roman ruins, elegant stays in Silk Road era caravan hotels, exceptional dining, and haggling with traders in the bazaars, we somehow manage to throw in some great riding too!

Be warned!  Turkey is seductive and if you are like most that have traveled with us to this dynamic land that is part Europe, part Asia, you are sure to fall under its spell.

Itinerary

Highlights

  • Istanbul was once known as Constantinople, a port that has held strategic importance through the millennia, an Old World hub that stood reign for thousands of years over the Byzantine, Latin, Roman and Ottoman Empires.   Today it is hip, a blend of ancient and modern with a skyline dominated by the Hagia Sofia Cathedral (532 A.D.) and the Blue Mosque (1609 A.D.)  You will want to plan on spending more time here either before or after your tour.
  • Ephesus is an archeological masterpiece with layers of history that date back as far as 10th Century B.C., a city during the Roman Empire that was only second to Rome itself with a strong biblical history.  You'll wonder at its temples, palaces, broad avenues and ancient decadence.
  • If you find adventure in dining then you will be right at home in Turkey.  Fresh fish is a favorite.  Skewered grilled lamb and beef are a mainstay.  Grilled vegetables, ripe fruits, delicate pastries and baked goods all with that Mediterranean flair.  You will eat well on this journey ... and healthy too! But beware if you should acquire a taste for the high octane Raki!
  • MotoDiscovery has the best staff in the business.  Not only do you have fun, experienced and accommodating hosts to accompany you on your vacation, our Turkish staff are licensed, riding tour guides who will enthusiastically share with you the mystery and magic of this land.  Consider this fact alone as added value, the foundation of any great motorcycle tour experience.
  • The ride will bring a smile to your face, cruising along the twisting coastal roads, with panoramic views of overlooking the Aegean & Mediterranean seas.
  • One night on the Southern Aegean at the seaside resort of Bodrum will be a pleasant and pampering stay.  A visit to the Museum of Underwater Anthropology in a 15th century Crusaders castle overlooking the bay is a desirable and interesting activity.  The evening will be free for shopping, fine dining and taking part in an energetic nightlife.
  • A two-night stay in the village Mediterranean village of Kas will allow for optional riding, a chance to explore old tombs and walk the steps of a Roman amphitheatre.  Like all of Turkey, it is a photographers dream.
  • During the reign of the Roman Empire, where did the elite go for R& R in Anatolia?  To Pamukkale!  You too can swim in the warm mineral-laden waters among Roman columns in the clear Sacred Pool.
